Gatestock Raises a Stack

Even the sunshine turned up for Gatestock ‘08, by popular reckoning this was only the second sunny Saturday of a rather soggy Summer.

The unexpectedly pleasant weather provided the perfect backdrop to what was a truly cracking afternoon’s entertainment.

Many performers took the stage during the event and we were treated to a wonderful variety of sounds.

Just about everybody was blown away by the vocal talents of Vicky Jackson, a young singer making her first appearance in The Gate. With a strong and clear voice and an unfaltering ability to hit the right notes, high and low, Vicky is definitely someone to watch out for.

Too Drunk to Punk grabbed the attention of everyone from young to old with a magnificently tight collection of late ‘70s punk classics. The band assure me that they’ve only been playing together for a fortnight - a little hard to believe but we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on that one.

A surprise performance by our Sunday regulars, The David Moore Band, provided a suitably classy finale to a great afternoon’s music.

Then things turned to the serious business of fund-raising. An auction of various items brought some wonderfully generous bidding and the raffle tickets sold out completely. By the end of the day, Gatestock ‘08 had raised over £5000 for Cancer Research.

We’d like to thank all those who helped make the event such a spectacular success - most especially, The Big Boot Band who did the bulk of the organisation.

We look forward to seeing you at Gatestock ’09.
